The primaries are behind us, and as Colorado Republicans we have chosen our 2010 candidates. Both before and since the primaries, I’ve been confronted by some passionate and principled voters. They tell me they might not vote in November since their favorite candidate didn’t get elected. Here’s a sampling of what I’ve heard:

• “I need a reason to support THAT Republican besides the fact that he is a conservative.”
• “I’m not supporting THAT Republican, I would rather let it all fall and work harder to find the very best candidate for the next election cycle.”
• “Those who voted for THAT Republican are an uninformed electorate. He is unelectable.”

If you are one of those who share these sentiments and are tempted to leave your ballots blank in November, I urge you to read on and reconsider.

We’ve Only Just Begun – And We’re Late to the Game

Step away from 2010 with me, and let’s take a big picture look. The progressives have been chipping away at American freedoms for about 100 years. This current liberty movement we’re experiencing has really only been engaged and mobilized since the 2008 “Triple Crown” of Democrat victories. That’s not a long time compared to the progressive involvement.

This liberty movement is key to freedom’s survival in the United States. As the noose that chokes freedom continues to tighten around us, I don’t foresee the movement stalling. Instead, I predict it will steadily develop as the symptoms of the left’s oppressive legislation intensify.

If you’re unhappy with the primary results, ask yourself:  In one election cycle, is it reasonable to expect a new movement that is less than two years old to undo 100 years’ worth of damage?

The Opposition Will Love You

If you haven’t yet read The Blueprint by Adam Schrager and Rob Witwer, I urge you to pick up a copy and read it now. You will learn how the left has developed a well-oiled machine that has turned Colorado and many other states from Republican to Democrat majorities since 2004. They know what they are doing, they seem to be doing it legally, and each election cycle they are getting better at winning.

Their goal is to build Democrat majorities at all levels of government. That means they aim to remove as many key Republicans as they can. Their simple yet successful tactics primarily involve turning voters against conservative candidates. They target well, they move quickly, and they’re effective.

So, I ask: What exactly are you helping if you choose not to support and not to elect the Republican candidate this critical election year?  Is it possible you are walking right into the liberal playbook and giving them easy victory?

Someone Has Freedom’s Best Interests in Mind – But it’s Not the Left

As free citizens in a democratically elected republic, it is our duty to keep our elected officials accountable. That accountability starts the day they take office and doesn’t end until their last. Recent history has demonstrated that Democrats will continue to cram their anti-capitalist, anti-God, anti-freedom agenda into our lives and destroy our individual freedoms. They will do it with little to no regard for their constituents’ protests and threats to unseat them next election.

While the Republicans we chose may not align perfectly with your expectations, putting them in office to regain a conservative majority provides at least two significant benefits. First, we will have valuable time to find and recruit candidates for 2012, 2014, and beyond. More importantly, freedom will have a fighting chance, since almost any Republican in office now will serve freedom’s interests better than a Democrat.

It’s simple. If we choose to let Democrats win, freedom’s crash is inevitable as they will continue to inflict more irreversible damage. Those wiser than me have already warned us. John Adams said, “Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”  Ronald Reagan said, “Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.” I know of no nation in history that has recovered freedom once lost. Do you?

It’s Up to You

2010 could prove to be the most critical election in our state and nation’s histories. Some have said this is a “do or die” year for freedom. The progressives have made huge strides and damaging strikes against freedom. If Democrats are allowed to retain a majority this cycle, we all have reason to dread what’s coming:  be prepared to be ignored and watch your freedoms disappear right in front of your eyes.

If you’re still tempted to leave your ballots blank and let Democrats win, my final questions are:  How far will they go?  Are you willing to risk losing more freedom and find out?  Can we get those freedoms back?

Freedom’s fate: that’s a reason to vote. It’s up to you.

Ever wonder exactly how much power the federal government was intended to wield?

James Madison wrote in The Federalist #45:

“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the Federal Government, are few and defined.  Those which are to remain in the State Governments are numerous and indefinite.  The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will for the most part be connected.  The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects, which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people;  and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.”

So now, let me see… the federal government’s powers are to be “few and defined.”   While the states’ powers extend to “all the objects.”

For about 100 years we have forgotten (or worse, never learned) the original intents of our founding fathers and allowed the federal government massive, almost unrestricted growth.  Here is just a sampling of the “few and defined” powers we’ve granted it:

• ObamaCare
• Department of Education (hmmmm… wonder why this department didn’t see to it that we learned of Mr. Madison’s intent?)
• Environmental Protection Agency
• Department of Agriculture
• Department of Health and Human Services
• Department of Housing and Urban Development
• National Endowment for the Arts
• and on and on…

This is a mere drop in the bucket.  Check out the A – Z Index of U.S. Government Departments and Agencies for a complete (if not overwhelming) list of federal departments and agencies.  Do you think the agencies and thousands of unelected bureaucrats inherent within these agencies fall within Mr. Madison’s definition of “few and defined?”

The far-reaching and numerous tentacles of the federal government must be removed if we are to truly realize and retake our freedoms.  Awareness of and implementation of states’ rights and powers are critical in this current political era of the greatest experiment in history.

Few and defined…

Election 2010 couldn’t be more critical.  Let’s get ready for the election battle of our lives and get this country back to original intent.

If you haven’t yet read the book The Blueprint: How Democrats Won Colorado (and Why Republicans Everywhere Should Care), then you need to.  Co-author Adam Schrager was the keynote speaker in Colorado Springs last night.  He and co-author Rob Witwer have researched and compiled the story and details behind the progressive takeover of Colorado and several other government bodies across the nation.

Read the book.  If you have opportunity to hear either Mr. Schrager or Mr. Witwer speak, do it.  You will know why it’s imperative that every citizen who loves freedom must become a foot soldier for freedom starting right now.  The way it’s always been done is now a laughable mouse wheel of insanity.  The rules of this game have changed dramatically, and if we’re going to have any hopes to play and win for freedom, we have to know this new game well.

At this very moment, I can say this with confidence:   The Republican party won’t make it happen…Conservative organizations and think tanks won’t make it happen…Conservative candidates, activists, pundits, talk show hosts, bloggers… none of these can make it happen on their own.  It will take a concerted, unified effort between every freedom loving citizen, organization, and candidate.

It requires a long term focus. It requires taking personal ownership of our local communities, state, and nation. It requires a long term and patient understanding that candidates come and candidates go. It requires looking beyond our candidates of choice during these contentious and often times destructive primary battles. It requires steadfast commitment to the vision of freedom.

It requires letting go of blame…and instead, discovering and appropriating our own individual responsibility in making victory happen for freedom.  Individual responsibility…isn’t that what made this nation great in the first place?

On July 6, President Obama used “recess” to appoint a new administrator, Donald Berwick, for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  By using a recess appointment, he conveniently bypassed the traditional and customary Senate confirmation process.  Wonder why?  His quote trail is so Marxist even Obama didn’t have confidence his own Democrat majority Senate would confirm this blatant destroyer of freedom.

It’s been over 100 days since ObamaCare became law of the land.  ObamaCare is the largest, most intrusive, freedom-choking legislation our government has ever passed.  It is THE shoe-in for a Marxist agenda to root within our nation and culture.

While it will eventually create an overwhelming citizen dependence upon the state, it will simultaneously destroy the most thriving, prosperous, pro-health, and pro-life health care market that has existed in human history.  If allowed to remain law, it will be the largest blow ever taken to our nation’s prosperity, freedom, and quality of life.  It is Marxism wrapped in a package of false hope.

An informed citizenry is equipped to act and take ownership of that which is ours.  Because of this, in addition to blogging about the health care battle, I will continue to send health care updates and alerts to you as appropriate.  At the national level, we have leaders in Congress who are taking on the charge to repeal ObamaCare.  At the state level, we have attorneys general who are joining forces in a lawsuit against the federal government based on the unconstitutional aspects of ObamaCare.  Ordinary citizens all across the nation are taking action to push back against ObamaCare.

In summary, the majority of Americans are opposed to ObamaCare and steps are being taken to push it back.  I intend to assist in this effort in every way I can by keeping ordinary Americans informed.

I was given the privilege and honor to sit on the Tea Party panel at the Western Conservative Summit 2010 in Lone Tree, Colorado last Saturday July 10th, 2010.

Funny thing is, I’m no fan of the term “tea party” applied as a label to this incredible freedom revival all across our land.  Just wraps it up and constricts it way too tightly!  I covered that briefly, PLUS I got to bring my football and share the big picture vision of the Super Bowl for freedom in 2010.

I shared the panel with John Eastman, William Owens from the Tea Party Express, and Charles Patricoff from Hear Us Now.  We each offered our own unique perspectives to the movement that will stop the liberal agenda in its tracks.

Coalition for a Conservative Majority was a co-sponsor of the event with a booth promoting the Colorado Right to Health Care Choice ballot initiative.

The Centennial Institute was the organizer of this incredible event.  The list of speakers was phenomenal, and each delivered inspiration, truth, and information we all took with us to turn this state and nation red again.  I hear plans are already in the works for the second annual summit in 2011.  I expect it to be every bit as fabulous as the first one.
