Scott McInnis — 5/17/10
Podcast: Play in new window
Scott McInnis, Republican candidate for Governor in Colorado, was with me on the radio today to discuss his campaign for Governor and Colorado politics. Scott answered questions about his vision for Colorado and what he believe it will take to defeat Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper in the fall.
Colorado is a pivotal state in 2010. With a U.S. Senate race and this Governor’s race, the nation will be focused on the Mountain West. Listen to this podcast to find out more about Scott McInnis, candidate for Colorado Governor.
Tom Wiens — 5/18/10
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom Wiens, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Colorado, was with me on the radio today to discuss his campaign for U.S. Senate and the direction of our country. Tom is a rancher, a small businessman and a former Colorado State Senator.
Colorado is a pivotal state in 2010. The U.S. Senate race here will be watched closely by both state and national media as a key indicator for the direction of the country.
UPDATE: On 5/24/10, Tom Wiens announced that he was dropping out of the Senate race and would be lending his support to Ken Buck (below).
JJ Ament — 5/19/10
Podcast: Play in new window
On today’s Jim Pfaff Show, JJ Ament joined me to discuss his bid to become Colorado State Treasurer. You can check out his website here.
The Republican nomination for Treasurer here in Colorado has been a contentious one. JJ Ament’s opponent, Ali Hasan, has spent alot of money on a major television campaign claiming that Ament–a finance expert by trade who has worked with major banking institutions–would invest in failing institutions putting Colorado state government funds in peril.
I sent repeated requests to Hasan to come on the show this week to no avail. And I have to say I am not impressed with him. I was hopeful at first that a new fresh face in Colorado politics would be a welcome addition to the GOP. But Hasan has provided weak arguments about state government investments which just don’t add up. And he lacks the needed experience and understanding of finance to perform at a high level. And his proposed invest-in-Colorado approach is greatly lacking. Of course I agree we should invest in Colorado, but will we also ignore good investments in other parts of the country in the stubborn pursuit of that goal. Our investments in state government, as with our personal investments, should be well-diversified and properly directed
JJ Ament’s experience may be perfectly suited for the Treasurer’s office. And his commitment to transparency is exactly what we have needed in that office.
Personally, I am supporting JJ as a première candidate for this office. I believe he has the potential to put a positive mark on this office which could have a greatly positive impact for years after.
Jane Norton — 5/20/10
Podcast: Play in new window
Jane Norton was a guest on The Jim Pfaff Show today. Jane is seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Former Lieutenant Governor of Colorado, Jane has won statewide races here before. She is a former employee of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and she also served as director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Human Services before becoming Lieutenant Governor with former Governor Bill Owens.
Jane discusses her stand on issues like healthcare, the economy, government regulation and her vision for what it will take to be a successful U.S. Senator. I also asked her about the rumored endorsement of her campaign by Sarah Palin.
Dan Maes — 5/21/10
Podcast: Play in new window
Dan Maes was my guest for the first half hour of The Jim Pfaff Show today. Dan is seeking the Republican nomination for Governor in Colorado, and is considered an outsider to the process. Dan is a businessman and first time candidate who is taking on Scott McInnis heading into the GOP state convention on Saturday. He has been considered the Tea Party candidate in the race, but has had difficulty raising money though he has campaigned all over the state.
Dan discusses his upstart bit to earn the Republican nomination and what he believes is his ability to bring a new perspective in Denver. He discusses his opposition to the 13 new tax increases pass by the Colorado legislature in this year’s session and what he would do to overturn them. And he lays out his philosophy for growing the economy and creating jobs in Colorado.
UPDATE: Dan Maes scored a surprise upset of Scott McInnis in the Colorado GOP State Convention and has achieved top billing on the November ballot. The final vote was; Dan Maes, 49.35%, Scott McInnis, 48.89%. This is going to be a close primary on August 10, and I’ll have both candidates back on the program from time to time to give you an opportunity to hear more from them.
Ken Buck — 5/21/10
Podcast: Play in new window
Ken Buck was a guest on The Jim Pfaff Show on Friday just before the Colorado GOP State Convention. Ken will clearly win the vote of the convention delegates because his other major opponents, Tom Wiens and Jane Norton, are petitioning on the ballot instead of taking the convention route.
In the case of Jane Norton’s abstention from the typical nomination process, it represents a major victory for Tea Party activists. When Jane announced her bid for the Republican nomination, it was accompanied by an implied endorsement by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and it’s head, Sen. John Corzine of Texas. Immediately, Tea Party activists revolted against the NRSC and began to align themselves with Ken Buck.
Ken’s discussion with me on the broadcast touches upon healthcare, the nomination process in the U.S. Senate and he also discusses his reported statement that it was rude of Sarah Palin to come into Colorado on the same weekend of the Republican convention after reports that seemed to indicate Palin would be endorsing Jane Norton.
