AUDIO: Internet Regulation Coming Soon

Today I talked to Phil Kerpen of Americans for Prosperity about the FCC’s recent efforts to begin internet regulation. On Thursday of last week, the FCC board voted 3–2 to move forward on their effort to classify internet service pipelines as a “telecommunications service” effectively putting it under the same regulatory scheme as your telephone service.

Internet regulation of this sort means increased taxes on the provider services and more control over content. Under the guise of protecting the rights of content providers who want access to the pipelines which deliver internet services, the FCC would have the ability also to dictate the types of content appropriate to be delivered.

Phil Kerpen of Americans for Prosperity has a website, NoInternetTakeover.com, which lays out the case for keeping the internet free and holding back the freedoms which the government could take away from us with any form of internet regulation.
