AUDIO: Obama Lacking Leadership

Leadership. It’s a very misunderstood word. And it is ascribed to people in the political world far too often. Obama leadership is sorely lacking at the present time, and as we see Obama’s leadership failures in the economy, in the war in Afghanistan, in his efforts to help his fellow Democrats win elections and even in the Gulf of Mexico, it’s clear that he needs a bit of a leadership primer. I gave one at the end of my show today, and the podcast is attached above.
Obama leadership; can we really use these two words together? Is it just an oxymoron? I believe it is, because he doesn’t know the basic principles of what real leaders—those who have accomplished great things in all the many areas of life—do to achieve the great successes we have seen in the history of the world and especially in the history of this country.
As a teaser to the podcast, let me share with you a definition of leadership which I believe is the best definition we could find of this most important of social, cultural, entrepreneurial and even political skills. It comes from a gentleman named Bobb Biehl who consults with not-for-profit and for-profit organizations all across the country.
Leaderhip is …
… knowing what to do next.
… knowing why that is important.
… knowing how to bring appropriate resources to bear upon the problem at hand.
This definition has guided me for many years. And intuitively, we all know that the great leaders of the past whom we admire have this very quality of leadership. Names like Winston Churchill (whose bust Obama sent back to England recently), Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, George Patton, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Moses, Ronald Reagan and so many other names in history. Barack Obama will not be named among them.
Obama leadership? Well, let’s just say that if he doesn’t quickly change course, we won’t be reading very many positive things about him in the history books (assuming we’ll be reading much about his tenure in the White House at all).
